The United States of America, more commonly referred to as the USA or the US, is the most popular destination for international students and therefore has the largest international student population comprising of over 800,000 international students. From Hollywood, to major fast food chains and the emergence of some of the world’s most prominent technology companies, the country’s influence is felt globally and it’s no surprise that it is still the number one choice for international students.

Cost of Studying and Living in The United States

The US is the most popular study destination and qualifications obtained at US institutions are held in high regard, which means that studying in the US can be very expensive. Depending on the program, students can expect to pay anywhere from $5,000 USD – $50,000, with the average annual tuition fees around $30,000 USD. As for cost of living, it is wholly dependent on the area in the country you are interested in studying. For instance, an apartment in a smaller town may be a lot more affordable than an apartment in New York City or Los Angeles. Students can expect to budget anywhere from $1,000-$3,000 per month for their living expenses, depending on where they study. 

Visas

In order to study in the United States students must have a student visa. Depending on the course you have chosen to study and the type of school you plan to attend you will require either a F-1 visa or an M-1 visa.

 If planning to study at a university or college, high school, private elementary school or another academic institution such as on a language training program then the F type student visa will be required. If planning to study at a vocational or other nonacademic institution then the M type student visa will be required.

Language

English is the language that is spoken at all universities and colleges in the United States. Due to the great deal of cultural and language diversity, many universities and colleges in the US will offer specialized programs and instructional courses for learning English.
